Re-wires
A building needs a re-wire every now and then. There are several reasons why it may be needed, or simply better to re-wire than to amend the existing installation. From small "one up, one down" houses to commercial buildings it is important to get re-wires right, we believe that getting the socket or switch exactly where you need it, is just as important as insuring it is completed to a high electrical standard.
  • The Installation maybe 30 years old or even more. Cable degrades over time, the insulation breaks down and it will not cope with the modern electrical demands as well.

  • An old installation is often not suited to our modern electric lives. You might only have one socket in each room, maybe a couple in the kitchen but this is not enough for our computers, blenders, radios, microwaves, tv's etc.

  • An old installation does not automatically mean its unsafe. We have tested many 20 year old installations and found them only needing relatively little work to bring them up to modern standards. However if an installation has been altered extensively over the years, with an extra socket here, and new switch there, particularly if it has not been carried out by a professional electrician, this is where most of the faults occur, and it can be easier, safer, and cheaper to simply start again.

  • Extensive building/decorating/refurbishing projects may mean that the whole of your house gets a re-wire as the building is altered and amended from one end to the other, and rather than tack on alterations electrically, a better installation is achieved if it is treated as a rewire from the start.

Consumer Unit Replacement
A New Consumer unit (mains board/ fuse box), can bring a older installation up to a more modern standard. Although it is often referred to as a "swap" this is far from reality. Every time a consumer unit is changed and upgraded we need to make sure that the installation meets the technical specifications needed to operate the MCB's (trips) and comply with the current Electrical Regulations - BS7671:2008.
The size of installation you have, and the age of installation, will affect how easy this process is. Every installation is fully tested, and we may need to fit new earth cables or fix any faults as appropriate. Please give us a call to discuss your requirements and explain how this may work for you.
